Not necessarily, but, a well attended night in your area gives you a stronger position when chasing a prestigious support slot out of town with other Gig the Nation members.Alternatively if you have a forthcoming gig/event and you know within reason the size of attendance, you can offer the support slot in return for a Gigswap. .
Absolutely, communication is paramount to the smooth running of any gig night. Once you find a suitable partner via Gig the Nation, we positively encourage you to communicate in whichever way you choose, to make your events go with a bang.
Yes, some acts by nature will have more gigs and prospective gig swappers than others. You can contact them as many times as you like as long as they have a suitable support slot available .Don’t forget you have to have something to offer back, so the harder you network and gig your local area the more your profile will rise and the more popular amongst our Gig the Nation community you will become.
We all know that many artists play for free at the beginning of their careers, “paying their dues”. We at Gig the Nation stand strongly against Pay to Play (The act of being forced to pre sell tickets to get on the bill.) We want to leave the financial arrangements to individual events organisers, artists and promoters.
Individual venues have different rules; it is really up to the nature and type of premises hosting your event. A 14+ policy can attract more customers but might incur larger costs in policing the door and alcohol sales laws.
Yes ,its your gig, if there is a Gig the Nation member you really like you can have them as a special guest.
Yes thats fine. When you are promted at the sign up stage, choose to join as a band and you will find PROMOTER as a category. Join here! We encourage live music anywhere, organised by anyone, so as long as you are finding acts via GIGtheNATION , or at least offering supports to your fellow members we are happy.
Some artists may have an over subscribed gig on offer and we would ask them to reply courteously leaving all future channels of communication open, for more possible Gigswaps in the future. There is also the rejct button on your View my Gigs heading at the left margin of the page, once you've logged in.
Yes we would encourage you to spread the word about yourselves as wide as possible. Remember Gig the Nation works best as a Gigswap service so be aware of any travel costs.
This is entirely upto you. We would like the site to be a self help community, and we feel sure that if you have been well received out of town by other members you will sooner or later want to return the gig.In our experience you would be amazed how small the world of live music can be especially inside your own genre.
We have set the default advanced booking time line to six months to try and bring focus to everyones planning. The drop down box will scroll forwards with time. In our experience booking gigs way too far in advance can lead to a dissappointing experience as things out of everyones control can and often go wrong.
